Dr. Benjamin Westerhaus is an Interventional Spine & Pain Management physician at the Cantor Spine Center at Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute. He brings an engineering background and an eye for innovation to every patient he serves. He seeks to provide compassionate care and superior outcomes by working closely with an interdisciplinary team of physical therapists and renowned spine surgeons. Originally born and raised in Minnesota, Dr. Westerhaus has been slowly running away from cold winters until finally settling in South Florida. He completed his undergraduate education at Saint Louis University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering, where he met his bride studying in the same program. They moved to Kansas City, where he worked as an engineer for three years before going to medical school at the University of Kansas. He completed his internship in General Surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, and returned to Kansas City to complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He then completed his fellowship in Interventional Spine and Sports with Dr. Giuffrida. Whether you have neck pain, sciatica, a vertebral compression fracture, or need help with pain management, Dr. Westerhaus’s treatment philosophy aims to make your functional goals the primary driver of your treatment plan, exhausting the most conservative options first before moving to the more invasive ones. He draws on a love of research and innovation to guide his care and seeks to empower his patients with knowledge and understanding to ensure their long term success. He is proficient both in common procedures, like epidurals and nerve blocks, in addition to more advanced procedures like radiofrequency ablation, kyphoplasty, mild® procedure, ReActiv8, spinal cord stimulation, and SI joint fusion. Dr. Westerhaus is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the International and North American Neuromodulation Societies, and the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience. When he is away from the clinic and procedure suite, Dr. Westerhaus enjoys spending time with his wife and six children in the Floridian weather and exploring the many beaches that surround us.

Dr. Westerhaus and his entire staff both up front and in the examination room are absolutely fantastic. They cured my pain problem in an instant much to my surprise. Went back for this appointment after six weeks. No pain from the moment I left the office and returned six weeks later still pain free. So unbelievable happy that I was able to see Dr. Westerhaus. I I truly wish all doctors could be this efficient.

My experience with the staff in the front and also Dr westerhouse and all the other supporting Physicians was excellent they were very intelligent and knowledgeable and showed me things and explain them to me to a way to I can now take better care of myself and be aware exactly what the heck is going on I have been to three other Physicians that have seen my MRI and some have taken other tests this is the first time I got the exact explanation showing pictures of my body where I need to concentrate on working thank you so much!

Traveled all the way from Illinois to see this physician. His recommendations were excellent and I am glad I came to Florida. It was Extremely helpful. I wasn't getting the care I needed in Illinois. I was in extreme pain and Dr Westerhaus was able to finally help me. I have had Dystonia since I was 25 and am 65 now. This is the first time I have received relief.

I appreciate that after I left Dr. Westerhaus took the time to study my knee X-rays and ask me himself to schedule an MRI to rule out a possible but not probablt issue with a bone island. I have been in agony for 38 months and have seen 5 doctors multiple times. None of them thought to try a different medication. Dr. Westerhaus listened and didn't shrug like the others when I said Gabapentin and other medications had not lessened the pain. Since I took the second Celebrex the pain has gone away 98% and there Is a fluidity to my steps I have not had since Nov. 2, 2020. I am exceedingly grateful. There is still slight persistent tightness, but the pain and its limitations were ruining my life.

The nurse/assistant got me right in the room and took my vitals and updated my record for the Doctor. Very efficient and friendly.

Dr. Westerhaus is amazing. He thoroughly looked at my record and history and asked how I was doing. He and his nurse have a great sense of humor and made me laugh. We even did a dance together ! I left with a huge smile on my face. With that aside, the treatment I received from his office was perfect and left me with no pain. He gave me advice for the future and assured me that I could contact his group at any time if pain returned. Thank you Dr. Westerhaus. I wish all physicians had your same sense of caring and light heartedness. Too many people take life too seriously. Yes, you see very serious issues and you find a way to relieve the pain in a happy way. Thank you so much !!

Dr. Westerhaus' staff worked very well as a team. They seemed to genuinely like each other and enjoyed what they do. This was evidenced by the smiles on their faces. Very friendly bunch. My doctor visit was actually enjoyable. Hard to believe, right? It's true. Keep up the good work team - you have It right. Thank you.

Very happy with Dr Westerhaus and his staff. Very friendly and professional. Follow up with phone calls within the same day. I would recommend Dr. Westerhaus to anyone with back issues. He explains procedures so you can understand . He is very kind, friendly, professional and truly caring for your health and getting the proper results.
