I expected to wait a while to be seen as I was running a little late, but I was welcomed so graciously and taken right into an exam room and triaged. The swift and comprehensive attention I received was pivotal to helping me calm down and realize that I was doing ok and everything was going to be alright.

My diagnosis of a serious heart valve condition was a surprise and very distressing to me. I arrived to my first appointment stressed from anticipation, traffic, parking, everything. The welcome I got from the staff at the front desk instantly relaxed me and I began to feel at ease. I was immediately ushered into an exam room by a gracious young man who was exuded positivity. He triaged with uplifting conversation and I felt very comfortable although I had no idea what was coming next. Dr. Newman came in shortly thereafter and also made me feel completely at ease. He explained my situation in a matter of fact manner but with compassion for my potential shock and awe. Dr. Newman told me the pros and cons of the treatment options and I felt confident in making the choice of going forward with the more invasive surgery at this time. Every staff member I came in contact with was very professional, pleasant, engaging and encouraging. Shamika, the surgical coordinator, is exceptionally professional, efficient, and gracious; she is a personal point encouragement each time I call with even a small question or concern. As the admission date gets closer, my confidence in choosing to have surgery and Dr. Newman grows stronger and I look forward to being restored to optimum health following the procedure.

Dr. Newman's knowledge, experience and expertise are evident but his humble, matter of fact, and plain English delivery of difficult information was completely reassuring. He didn't talk down to me or try to steer me into choosing a predetermined procedure. Although I researched my condition and treatment options before seeing Dr. Newman, I felt better informed after hearing what he had to say and how he explained my condition and treatment options in context to MY situation and not generally. He gave me a choice and the pros and cons of each and shared his reasoning for each option. I feel absolutely confident in the surgical decision I've made and in placing myself in the care of Dr. Newman and his excellent staff. I chose Dr. Newman based on strong recommendations from past patients. I have been happy to let my family and others know how pleased and confident I feel about taking this journey with Dr. Newman and his staff.
