Delray Medical Center Now Offering New PET/CT Imaging for Oncology Patients

Sep 15, 2020

Delray Medical Center is now offering some of the latest technology in PET/CT imaging for patients with the addition of the GE Discovery IQ PET/CT.  It offers up to two times more improvement in both image quality and quantitation accuracy.  PET/CT combines the power of positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) allowing for a more accurate diagnosis than each exam can provide on its own.

“We are committed to continuing to bring top quality medical imaging technologies to help serve our community members close to their homes,” said Maggie Gill, chief executive officer of the Palm Beach Health Network and Delray Medical Center. “The superior image quality of the new PET/CT enables our clinicians to obtain critical patient information for enhanced diagnoses faster than before.”

PET/CT is a powerful tool that physicians use to determine whether a patient has cancer before it even shows up on other imaging exams.

“Technology such as the GE Discovery IQ PET/CT allows us to offer the latest in advanced diagnostic imaging to provide the most accurate diagnosis and help our oncologists make the best treatment decisions for patients,”said Dr. Stephen Leighton, medical director of radiology at Delray Medical Center. “These advanced imaging services we are now providing to the community give patients access to the most accurate and fastest information possible so they can be treated appropriately.”

A physician may order PET scan to inspect patient’s blood flow, oxygen intake, or the metabolism of the organs and tissues. PET scans show problems at the cellular level, giving the doctor the best view of complex systemic diseases.

Patients may benefit from:

  • Convenient location (on the campus of DMC)
  • Personalized care and state-of-the-art technology
  • Interpretations and consultations by specialized radiologists
  • Fast report generation
  • Reduced patient exposure
  • Low dose injection
  • Shorter scan times
Scans are available on Tuesdays. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please call 561-637-5303.
