Impact of FDA banning red dye #3
Jan 27, 2025From WPBF 25 News
Red Dye Three is found in dozens of foods, medications, candy and beverages in the United States, though it is banned in several other countries.
In 1990, the FDA declined to authorize allowing the dye in cosmetics or externally applied medications after a study showed it caused cancer when eaten by rats. Since then, the American Academy of Pediatrics has been studying artificial food dye's impact on children.
"There have been long standing concerns between these dyes and the neurodevelopment of children," Dr. Celina Moore, a pediatrician with Palm Beach Health Network said. "It is not necessarily a causality, but there is a correlation.”
