'Inside what will be Port St. Lucie's newest hospital'
WPBF 25 News toured the facility and was able to meet the CEO Tyler Sherill and two of the doctors set to practice there.
Sherill said their mission with #FloridaCoastMedicalCenter is to fill a gap in services for the growing city.
"I'd say there's two things that really define the mission here. The first is the overwhelming need for care. The overwhelming need for access to care. A lot of that has to do with the growth within the region," Sherill said.
He said they hope to be more than just a hospital and instead a campus that encompasses healthcare access in a number of different ways.
"It's one that will be hospitable and open and support the community. Economically speaking, it will bring hundreds of jobs," he added.
Sherill said there's a need for both care and jobs in the area.
"Jobs are leaving the community and so we can bring hundreds of jobs back. Care is also leaving the community, and we will bring that back here in a state-of-the-art fashion, in a high-quality fashion," he said.
