Good Samaritan Medical Center Raises Awareness for Gastroparesis and Offers Innovative Treatment Option with the Enterra® Therapy Device
Sep 3, 2025Good Samaritan Medical Center is raising awareness for Gastroparesis Awareness Month this August, highlighting an advanced treatment option for patients living with this often-debilitating condition, the Enterra® Therapy device.

Gastroparesis, a chronic disorder in which the stomach muscles fail to function properly, delays the emptying of food into the small intestine. This can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, bloating, and severe abdominal pain, significantly impacting a patient’s quality of life.
The Enterra® Therapy device, an FDA-approved gastric electrical stimulation system, delivers mild electrical pulses to the stomach muscles to help control nausea and vomiting caused by gastroparesis. Implanted during a minimally invasive surgical procedure, the device offers a potential lifeline for patients whose symptoms have not improved with medication or dietary changes.
“Gastroparesis can be life-altering, leaving many patients unable to eat normally or live without constant discomfort,” said Dr. Abraham Betancourt, gastrointestinal and obesity surgeon at Good Samaritan Medical Center. “The Enterra device is an important tool in our treatment arsenal, giving patients the possibility of improved symptom control and a better quality of life when other treatments have failed.”
In addition to offering this therapy, Good Samaritan Medical Center provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and managing gastroparesis, including dietary counseling, medication management, and advanced endoscopic and surgical procedures.
“At Good Samaritan Medical Center, our mission is to combine compassionate care with innovative treatments,” said Sheri Montgomery, CEO of Good Samaritan Medical Center. “By bringing the Enterra device to our patients, we are ensuring they have access to the most advanced options available for managing gastroparesis.”
