How a healthy diet can limit cancer risk

Oct 29, 2025

From CBS 12 News: October ends soon, breast cancer awareness continues with focus on prevention strategies

Dr. Marcia Schmidt, a Gynecological Oncologist at #DelrayMedicalCenter and Florida Cancer Specialist and Research Institute, says keep your diet simple.

Increase fruits, vegetables, chicken, and fish. And decrease red meats, fried, and processed foods

Dr. Schmidt also encourages lots of physical activity, even walking 30 minutes a day, three to four times a week, and strength training.

"You want to really focus on eating whole foods and really getting moving. I think as a society we have moved away from that. We drive everywhere, we take transit everywhere, and we don't get outside and walk, and move our bodies. Overtime, it makes you hold on to more fat and lose muscle. Those are the things that are important to maintain a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle and decreasing your risk of breast cancer and other cancers,” said Dr. Schmidt.
