From WPBF 25 News: Doctor warns of smoke as First Point Fire continues to burn in Okeechobee.

The smoke from the fire is a noticeable sight at Lake Okeechobee, and Dr. Jose Deolazabal, a pulmonologist at #PalmBeachGardensMedicalCenter, advises caution regarding the smoke.

"Now, the smoke has all these small particulates that cause inflammation. So it's the inflammatory process that occurs when we inhale these particulates from the smoke," said Deolazabal.

Dr. Deolazabal emphasized that while everyone can be affected by smoke in the air, vulnerable populations, including people with asthma and the elderly, should be particularly cautious.

"Just be aware of what's happening, especially with the air quality, keeping an eye on that, avoiding those areas, and stay indoors as much as possible if the air quality is poor that day," he said.
