"The ER will be pretty busy," said Dr. Pete Gonzalez, a trauma surgeon at Delray Medical Center.
Gonzalez has worked through dozens of July 4th holidays and witnessed numerous injuries caused by fireworks.
"Something will go off in their hand. They'll lose a finger, a couple of fingers, sometimes an entire hand. I've seen them look down the barrel of a Roman candle or whatever because they think it's not working, lose an eye," Gonzalez said.
Even sparklers, often considered harmless, can be dangerous if not used properly.
"People use these sparklers, and they think they're pretty innocuous. And they can be if you use them right. But they can also get extremely hot and leave a pretty severe burn," Gonzalez said.
