New specialized unit allows eligible patients to recover comfortably at home just hours after surgery

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – August 19^th, 2026– Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has opened a newly renovated Same-Day Surgery Unit, offering eligible patients undergoing select orthopedic and colorectal procedures the opportunity to return home the same day as their surgery while receiving the same high-quality care patients have come to expect.

The specialized nine-bed unit is designed to support patients recovering from procedures such as shoulder, knee, and hip replacements, colorectal, hernia, appendectomy, cholecystectomy and other general surgeries. Following surgery, patients recover in a quiet, comfortable environment where they are closely monitored by a dedicated care team before being discharged home, typically within four to six hours.

The renovated unit features updated furnishings for patients, families and staff, creating a modern healing environment that promotes comfort, rest and enhanced recovery after surgery.

Not every patient is a candidate for same-day discharge. Surgeons carefully evaluate each patient before surgery to determine whether they are appropriate for the program based on their medical condition, procedure and overall health.

Patients selected for same-day surgery benefit from a comprehensive care plan designed to make the transition home as seamless as possible. Prior to surgery, the care team coordinates durable medical equipment, post-acute care services and prescriptions so everything is in place before the patient leaves the hospital.
