Delray Medical Center Celebrates 1,000 Bariatric Surgeries

Delray Medical Center achieves a significant milestone, completing 1000 bariatric surgeries since the program was established in 2015.

The bariatric surgery program is led by Dr. Erica Podolsky, a board-certified bariatric and general surgeon. She has committed her career to helping patients overcome obesity and its associated health challenges. Her expertise encompasses minimally invasive techniques and robotic surgery, ensuring patients receive cutting-edge care tailored to their needs.

Delray Medical Center has achieved national accreditation as a Comprehensive Center from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), Aetna Bariatric Institute of Quality, Blue Cross Blus Shield Bariatric Blue Distinction Center, United Healthcare Optum Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Cigna Bariatric Center of Excellence, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to delivering safe and high-quality bariatric care. 

To qualify for bariatric surgery, you must meet the following criteria:

  • BMI of 40 or greater
  • BMI of 35 or greater with medically treated co-morbidities (insurance requirements may vary)
  • Significant disease related to weight
  • Able to give informed consent
  • Failure of other measures to lose weight
