From WPBF 25 News: 'I'm pain-free': New shoulder replacement technique helps patients recover faster

Tue October 13, 2026

Delray Medical Center is offering a new shoulder replacement procedure that preserves the rotator cuff, allowing some patients to recover and regain mobility sooner.

Stephen Wolfe, a former Penn State cheerleader and active gym-goer, lived with arthritis pain in his shoulder for years. He avoided surgery for years due to concerns about pain and the long recovery process.

"My biggest thing was, can I go back to the gym? Can I get back to golf?" Wolfe said. "I hate the downtime. I don't want to sit around. I'm not sitting on the couch."

Wolfe learned about the new procedure through his next-door neighbor, Dr. Vani Sabesan’s husband, and decided it was time to address his pain.

"I know her husband; I see him hanging out, and we're talking, and he says, 'You really need to talk to my wife.' So, I said, 'Yeah, maybe. I had this new thing.' I'm like, OK, and I always heard shoulder surgery was the most painful and the worst. I finally saw her, and she showed me what was going on and explained what was going to be done," Wolfe said.

Sabesan, an orthopedic surgeon at Delray Medical Center, explained that the new "Inhance Intact" technique preserves the subscapularis tendon, part of the rotator cuff, and maintains the patient’s natural anatomy.

"What we're doing is we're sparing your muscles. We're making it as anatomic as possible. Imagine you go through surgeries and we don't cut any of your muscles. We're able to replace the joint, the arthritis, and you have no restrictions after surgery," Sabesan said.
