About John Afshar
John Afshar MD, is a board-certified fellowship trained neurosurgeon specializing in minimally invasive surgery of the spine and the brain. He received both his undergraduate and medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He completed his residency in neurologic surgery at the Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC. During his residency, he further received specialized training at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He then underwent a research fellowship in brain tumors and cerebrovascular disease at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland where he published several scientific articles. Dr. Afshar obtained national recognition for his research by receiving the Galbraith award from the Congress of Neurologic Surgeons. Dr. Afshar further performed a spinal fellowship at Tampa General Hospital/University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He is a Diplomate of the prestigious American Board of Neurologic Surgery. Dr. Afshar is also a member of the Congress of Neurologic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.

A breath of fresh air for local healthcare! This new office is incredibly professional and attentive. Unlike other long-standing practices in the area that have grown indifferent, the team here actually listens and cares. All staff, beginning at the front desk, actually make eye contact with patients. They are also friendly and make you feel welcome; they demonstrate in their actions that they care.

We usually see Em but this time we saw a new nurse and she was so friendly, sweet and awesome to work with. She was very efficient. Dr Afshar came in afterwards and he was amazing as always. Dr. Afshar is outstanding!! He is compassionate, caring, extremely knowledgeable, and cares for his patients before, during, and after their surgeries and monitors their long term care needs also. He performed 2 level cervical artificial disc surgery on me , C5-6 and C6-7.He and his staff are wonderful. The reception staff also. I have been to both the WPB and Stuart location and everyone is always pleasant and the office is very clean and nice environment. The MRI staff at PBNI are also wonderful. I have had a couple Mri's there and I highly recommend Dr. Afshar, his staff Diane, Laurie, the Mri Unit, Reception, everyone I have encountered has been a positive helpful experience. Great staff. Very patient oriented. Everyone was kind and friendly from the receptionist to the nurse who took my v/s and more data. The Dr. was awesome. Thorough very patient and answered all my questions I did not feel rushed. No bad experiences at all. I have nothing but praise for this office and the care I received.
