About Richard Callison Jr

Dr. Richard Callison is a board-certified neurologist with fellowship training in cerebrovascular and interventional neuroradiology. He focuses on preventing and treating stroke and complex neurovascular disorders using minimally invasive endovascular techniques. As a member of the Palm Beach Neuroscience Institute, Dr. Callison treats intracranial and extracranial atherosclerosis, carotid artery disease, arterial dissection (a condition in which a tear forms in an arterial wall), and vertebrobasilar atherothrombotic disease using therapies designed to restore and preserve cerebral blood flow. He is on staff at St. Marys Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is known for rapid, expert response when every moment counts. When ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke occurs, Dr. Callison employs life-saving, catheter-based clot retrieval and other targeted endovascular therapies to limit damage and reduce the risk of recurrence. He also treats patients with cerebral and spinal arteriovenous malformations and fistulas, as well as those with severe vascular-related epistaxis, using advanced endovascular techniques. For patients with brain aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or subdural hematoma, he uses endovascular approaches such as coiling and stenting, which can reduce the need for open surgery, lower infection risk, shorten hospital stays, and speed recovery. Dr. Callison completed his fellowship in cerebrovascular and interventional neuroradiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after training in neurology and internal medicine at Saint Louis University. He earned his MD from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine. Committed to advancing the highest level of care in his community, Dr. Callison has participated in multicenter clinical studies of aneurysm coiling and endovascular devices, coauthored several peer-reviewed publications on interventional stroke care, and has been practicing medicine since 2003.
