The Program
Is a 2-year hospital-based program, and combines clinical education with academic structured classes.
The student will rotate their clinical training between a variety of clinical settings. This gives the student an objective comparison of different radiology department and exposure to all radiographic procedures.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will receive a certificate of successful completion and will be eligible to sit for the National Registry examination and the Florida license examination and become certified by the State of Florida as a General Radiographer.
Radiologic Technologists, or radiographers, are certified and/or licensed to use X-rays and other forms of radiation to produce images of patients' body parts and organs. Such images are helpful to physicians in their diagnoses of illness and injury.
Radiographers are typically employed by hospitals, private physicians, and public health departments. They may also work as technical advisors or as representatives for firms that manufacture radiologic equipment. Others become faculty members in hospital or community college programs of radiologic technology.
Application Requirements
- Initial requirements include
- Cover letter introducing yourself
- Completed application form
- College transcripts
- $50.00 application fee
- AS/AA Degree or higher must be obtained before completion of the program

The application process is from January-June.
Clinical Competency
Competency based clinical education has been established for students in this radiography program. It is designed to permit accurate assessment of knowledge, skills, and abilities of students in the clinical education component of this program. After completion of the prerequisite practice of the radiographic examination, under Direct Supervision of a Registered Technologist, the student or clinical instructor will indicate readiness to challenge the procedure. The student is evaluated on knowledge of procedure and anatomy as well as performance. This challenge is a Pass/fail process. Passing allows the student to perform that procedure under Indirect Supervision, meaning that a student may perform that procedure alone as long as a registered technologist is readily available if the student requires assistance.
Students that do not pass the challenge must re-challenge the procedure until the student passes the procedure. Counseling of the student may be needed if the student continues to fail challenges. Students are expected to complete a required number of competencies each clinical rotation and may even exceed requirements.
Competency goals are as follows:
- At the completion of the first rotation/semester in the first year, a student must pass at least two (2) challenges.
- At the completion of the second rotation/semester in the first year, a student must have passed at least eleven (11) challenges.
- At the completion of the third rotation/semester in the first year, a student must have passed at least twenty-three (23) challenges.
- At the completion of the final, rotation/in the first year/4th semester, a. student must have passed all thirty-four (34) first year challenges.
- At the completion of the first rotation/semester in the second year, a student must pass at least four (4) second year challenges.
- At the completion of the second rotation/semester in the second year, a student must have passed at least nine (9) second year challenges.
- At the completion of the third rotation/semester in the second year, a student must have passed at least thirteen (13) second year challenges.
- At the completion of the final rotation/semester in the second year, a student must have passed all seventeen (17) second year challenges.
Failure to meet any of these expectations will result in a deduction of points in formulating rotational and clinical grades.
Step One
In order to minimize the possibility of a misunderstanding, you are required to discuss your problems or complaints with the Program Director within five (5) days of the occurrence of the problem creating the grievance. The Program Director will investigate and obtain all pertinent factual information and provide a solution or explanation within five (5) working days accompanied with a decision and rationale. In most cases, grievances can be settled at this level with mutual satisfaction to all concerned.
Step Two
If the student is not satisfied with the solution in step one, you may submit a grievance in writing to the Medical Advisor of the radiology program within three (3) working days of receiving a decision from step one. The Medical Advisor will request a meeting with the student and Program Director within five (5) working days after the grievance is received. These individuals will review all the facts involved pertaining to the grievance and the Medical Advisor will respond in writing with a decision within five (5) working days of the meeting.
Step Three
If the response in step two is unsatisfactory, the student may submit the grievance in writing to the Chief Operating Officer of West Boca Medical Center within, three (3) working days of receiving decision of step two. The Chief Operating Officer will then review the grievance in detail and will write a response within ten (10) working days. This decision will be final.
Step Four
The grievance process should not exceed thirty-six days. Students remaining in the program are responsible for making up all class work, and clinical time to meet graduation requirements. In the case the student has exhausted the school’s grievance procedure and still feels aggrieved, the student has the option to contact the JRCERT with any concerns of the due process including allegations of program non-compliance with JRCERT standards at the following address: JRCERT: 20 North Wacker Drive, Suite 2850, Chicago, Il. 60606-3182 or by phone at: 312-704- 5300 or Web Site: www.JRCERT.org.

Office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The West Boca Medical Center School of Radiologic Technology has a safety screening protocol for students having potential access to the magnetic resonance department. This helps ensure that the students are appropriately screened for magnetic wave and radiofrequency hazards.
Prior to starting the clinical experience in MRI, the students attend a lecture given by the MRI supervisor and are taught MRI safety practices. The students then complete an MRI screening form which is reviewed by the MRI supervisor and program director. If there are any questions or concerns regarding their safety due to potential dangers of implants or foreign bodies, the program medical advisor will review their case and make a determination of their ability to safely participate in the MRI department.
Thank you for your interest in our Radiologic Technology program at Palm Beach Health Network School of Medical Imaging.
The application process starts with the completion of the school application. There is limited enrollment. Acceptance into the program will be based on the completed application, interviews with the faculty, and the successful completion of a hospital physical. Students will also have to complete a CPR training program before acceptance into the program.
The second step is to perform an eight-hour observation tour from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday at West Boca Medical Center and the hours may not be broken. The tour will expose the applicant to the same clinical setting as students of this program and they will be able to meet current students who will be able to answer your questions. During this tour, you will also have a professional interview with the clinical Instructor of that clinical site. Due to limited patient contact and exposure, professional attire is required.
The remaining application process will consist of interviewing with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator. The applicant’s transcripts and interview scores will be computed to formulate the applicants point total. The applicants with the highest point total will be selected. The remaining applicants will be placed in a ranking order. If a candidate drops out or is de-matriculated prior to two weeks before school begins, the individual listed as first alternate will be called to fill the vacancy.
There are some considerations to think about prior to making such a commitment. The equipment that Radiologic Technologists use is quite heavy at times. If you have any type of back injury or cannot stand for long periods of time, you need to reconsider if this is a career for you. Students must be able to think clearly and logically, make valid judgments and act effectively in stressful situations. Students must possess the ability to perceive events realistically, think rationally and function independently in routine and emergency situations. Students must be able to communicate to others in a clear, meaningful manner, in both written and oral forms. Students must speak and interact effectively with patients and other members of the health care team in the judgment of clinical instructors.
Once accepted into the program, the student must have a health physical done, which includes meeting the technical standards/physical abilities that must be performed as part of the entrance requirement.
In addition, for your convenience, our pregnancy policy is available to every female student, located in our student handbook. Furthermore, the program does NOT accept transfer students from other radiology programs or credit courses taken at other hospital base programs or college programs.
Applicants must schedule an in-person meeting with the Program Director or the Clinical Coordinator to review the application process. Applicants will have an opportunity to ask questions pertaining to the program and application process. Please e-mail Dr. Elby Pernsteiner at [email protected] or you may call (561) 488-8173. Office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
