Comprehensive Stroke Center

The Comprehensive Stroke Center program is the most rigorous certification for stroke facilities, designed for hospitals that have the specific ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. This is the highest level of accreditation for stroke treatment centers. 

Comprehensive Stroke Center capabilities:  

  • Acute management of subdural hematomas with craniotomy 
  • Acute management of ruptured and unruptured cerebral aneurysms 
  • Diagnosis and/or embolization of AVMs 
  • Advanced Imaging Capabilities 
  • General & Vascular Neurology Services 
  • Advanced Cranial and Spinal Neurosurgery Services 
  • Cranial/skull based services: Neuro Trauma, Neuro-onc. Pituitary 
  • Spine Services: Degenerative, posterior cervical & lumbar, spinal tumor, multilevel fusion 
  • Dedicated Neuroscience ICU 
  • Designated Stroke Patient Navigator 

Our high-quality network provides: 

  • 5 locations across the county to treat stroke emergencies 
  • 2 locations certified as comprehensive stroke centers (Delray Medical Center and St Mary’s Medical Center) 
  • 24/7 neurosurgery coverage (adult and pediatric) 
  • Acute Rehabilitation centers to facilitate recovery 
  • Thrombolytic Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke 
  • Stroke Telemedicine 
  • Stroke education programs 
  • Experienced physical, occupational, and speech therapists trained in stroke rehabilitation 

About the Stroke Network 

The Network includes expert physicians from emergency medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, vascular, and interventional radiology as well as nursing, rehabilitation and other support services.  

We go beyond providing fast and expert stroke care in an emergency. The network also provides a robust rehabilitation program that consists of physical therapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation nursing, nutrition counseling and psychological support. The team approach includes the patient and their family. 

Comprehensive stroke rehabilitation programs are located throughout the Palm Beach Health Network. Therapists trained in neuro-developmental techniques and Certified Rehab Nurses work with patients recovering from stroke.
